Discovery Air and HAV have signed a tentative deal that both companies hope to finalize in 2012, followed by the first delivery of airships in 2014.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/story/2011/08/26/nwt-discovery-airship.html

A British manufacturer hopes to build a fleet of airships for Yellowknife’s Discovery Air to supply remote communities and enterprises in the North, the two companies say.

The futuristic giant blimps from Hybrid Air Vehicles would cost $40 million each, Discovery Air Innovations, a Quebec-based subsidiary of Discovery Air, announced after signing a tentative deal with HAV.

The aircraft use a mix of non-flammable helium and air power to fly and can land on almost any surface, HAV says on its website.

They’ll be able to carry up to 50 tonnes of cargo to mining camps and remote communities, HAV says.

USB programmable flashlight eh?

I’d liked to see an led light array that can be syncronised with a phone alarm – say by bluetooth, and slowly illuminate the room with a false dawn as it reaches the time that your alarm will be triggered. You could even integrate it with a poster of a sunrise over mountains, or an ocean landscape.

Huh. They already have lights with a similar idea like this one from Phillips for Seasonal Affective Disorder. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003Y6B4XE
