Martial arts expert Keiko Wakabayshi, nicknamed the “Samurai Granny”, has been hired by the country’s military to train recruits in hand-to-hand combat.
The term martial arts is synonymous with the Far East, but actually derives from Mars, the Roman god of war and literally means the “arts of war”.

This a neat little flash animation with heaps of layers going on.
Disappointment with the recent Indiana Jones movie has brought renewed interest in the earlier scripts for the movie. Would it have been any better? This article reviews the similarities and differences. I think it was the whole ‘aliens’ thing myself. Did they really need to do aliens?
Novelist is a database purchased by the State Library of W.A. Any member of a W.A. public library can access Novelist. Go to the databases page, then select Novelist (second last one on the list), and enter the barcode number from your library card. Voila, you’re in. You can search for all sorts of fiction books here. I really like the Author Read-alikes. Search for an author, then select the ‘Author read-alike’ link at the bottom of one of their books. This will take to a short and interesting analysis of their work, overarching themes etc and suggest other authors who have similar elements you might enjoy. The information on this database is authoritative and the bibliographies are complete and consistent - something which is difficult to achieve on social user-created sites.
Library JournalThis is the penultimate chapter in one of the most widely acclaimed graphic novel series in the United States. It’s the story of the three Bone cousins-good-hearted Fone Bone, avaricious Phoney Bone, and dopey Smiley Bone. Driven from their home, they become allies of the people of the valley in their struggle against the invading Rat Creatures and the Hooded One. In this volume, the Bones, along with Gran’ma Ben (a.k.a. Rose, the land’s queen, returning from exile) and her granddaughter Thorn, enter the city of Atheia, where Gran’ma reunites with old allies and faces danger from a usurper while Phoney Bone schemes to take charge of the city’s treasury. Meanwhile, the army of the Hooded One is advancing on the city, and the stage is set for the final battle. Adventure, comedy, imagination, and clean, accomplished artwork-bringing to mind such masters as Carl Barks, Walt Kelly, and Hayao Miyazaki-come together to produce a classic with wide appeal for readers ages ten to 100. Most libraries will want the sturdier hardcover editions, because these books will be checked out repeatedly. Winner of 17 Eisner and Harvey awards and many other awards besides, this is a series no library should be without. Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
